Punjab Approves Farmhouse Policy for Kandi Region
The government in Punjab has made a new rule for building houses in a special area called the Kandi region.
This area used to have strict rules about building, but some land was later made available.
Now, people can build houses on this land, but they have to follow specific guidelines.
Each house needs a big plot of land, and they can only be a certain size, with no stores or businesses allowed.
Builders must also plant trees, use green building methods, and include ways to collect rainwater and use sunlight.
The government will charge fees to allow existing houses to be official and for new ones to be built.
This is meant to help organize the area and protect its nature.
Punjab Cabinet approved a farmhouse policy for land de-listed under PLPA in the Kandi region.
The policy mandates a minimum plot size of 4,000 sq yards with low FAR and site coverage.
Strict environmental safeguards include mandatory tree plantation, sustainable materials, rainwater harvesting, and solar energy.
Commercial activities are completely prohibited; only residential low-impact units are permitted.
Fees for regularization and construction will be levied, potentially reaching up to four times the collector's rate for regularization.
