MSRDC Unveils IIT Bombay-Backed Safety Plan
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has created a safety plan for the Pune-Mumbai Expressway Missing Link project.
This plan is based on recommendations from experts at IIT Bombay, who studied the area after a landslide on July 6.
The experts suggested stronger safety measures to handle heavy rain and prevent rocks from falling onto the road.
The MSRDC has started implementing these measures, which include securing loose rocks and installing protective netting.
Some bigger tasks, like changing drainage channels, will be done after the monsoon season.
The goal is to make the expressway safe for travelers and protect it from future landslides.
MSRDC has prepared a safety action plan for the Pune-Mumbai Expressway Missing Link project based on IIT Bombay's recommendations.
IIT Bombay assessed rainfall using a 1,000-year return period and recommended measures to prevent rockfalls and landslides.
Key recommendations include diverting rainwater, installing stronger steel wire mesh, and stabilizing slopes.
Immediate measures such as securing loose boulders and installing protective netting have already begun and are expected to be completed within 8-10 days.
Long-term measures, including diverting drainage channels, will be undertaken after the monsoon and are expected to take 1-2 months to complete.
