Nepal Mandates 24-Hour Reporting of Lost Passports to Interpol

Nepal has introduced a procedure for reporting lost, stolen or cancelled passports.

The government says the information must be sent to Interpol within 24 hours after a report is received.

Interpol will add the details to a database used by police in many countries.

Passport officials must check that the report and the person’s identity are genuine.

They will then mark the passport as lost or stolen so it cannot be used.

Nepali citizens abroad must report the loss to a nearby Nepali diplomatic mission.

The missions will send the information to Nepal’s Department of Passports and tell the person the passport is no longer valid.

The goal is to prevent lost or stolen Nepali passports from being misused.
