Election Commission Extends SIR Schedule
The Election Commission of India has extended the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by one week.
This means that the distribution of enumeration forms will now continue until December 11, and the draft electoral rolls will be published on December 16.
The final voters' list will be out on February 14, 2026.
The extension was made to give more time to voters to ensure their names are correctly included.
Opposition parties and some states, like West Bengal, have expressed concerns about the process, fearing it could lead to mass disenfranchisement and chaos.
The Election Commission announced the SIR on October 27 and has been conducting it in nine states and three Union Territories.
The West Bengal Police have also stepped up security measures in anticipation of potential law and order issues after the publication of the draft voters’ list.
