7-Eleven Closes India Stores as Reliance Partnership Ends
7-Eleven has closed all of its stores in India for now.
Its partner, Reliance Retail, shut 31 stores in Mumbai and Pune on September 30.
The two companies had worked together to bring 7-Eleven to India.
The first store opened in 2021, and the chain once had about 60 outlets.
Seven & i Holdings, which owns 7-Eleven, did not say why the stores closed.
Japanese newspapers reported that the company faced tough competition from Indian retailers.
Even so, Seven & i says it may look for another way to serve customers in India in the future.
Another Japanese convenience store company, Lawson, is reportedly planning to enter India in 2027.
