Apple Discusses iPhone Chip Packaging with Indian Manufacturers
Apple is talking to some Indian companies about making and putting together small parts called chips that are used in iPhones.
This is the first time Apple is seriously thinking about doing this in India.
One of the companies they are talking to is CG Semi, which is part of a big group called the Murugappa Group.
They are building a factory in a place called Sanand, Gujarat.
The talks are still very early, and it's not clear which chips they might make there.
Apple is very picky about quality, so it will be hard for CG Semi to get a deal.
If this happens, it would be a big deal for India's growing chip-making industry.
Recently, another big company called Intel made a deal with Tata Electronics to make and package chips in India too.
Packaging is important because it protects the tiny parts inside the chips and helps them work better.
Apple is in early discussions with Indian chipmakers, including CG Semi, about assembling and packaging iPhone chips in India.
This marks the first time Apple has seriously considered shifting part of its chip supply chain to India.
CG Semi is setting up a semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, and display-related chips are seen as the most likely option for now.
The discussions are still in the early stages, and Apple has strict quality requirements that CG Semi would need to meet to secure any deal.
If the deal goes through, it would significantly boost India's growing semiconductor sector, following a recent agreement between Intel and Tata Electronics.
