Aadhaar Updates: Online Changes Limited to Address, Other Updates Require In-Person Visit
Imagine you have an Aadhaar card, which is like your personal ID.
Lots of people were talking about being able to change important things on their Aadhaar card, like their name or birthday, just by using their phone or computer.
But, a check on the official Aadhaar website shows this is not true for most changes.
You can still only change your address online.
If you need to change your name, birthday, or phone number, you still have to go in person to a special Aadhaar office.
It's like getting a new driver's license; some things you can do online, but others require you to show up with your documents.
The government has not officially said you can do these other changes online yet, so it's best to check the official website for correct information.
Online Aadhaar updates are currently limited to changing the address and uploading supporting documents.
Changes to name, date of birth/age, gender, mobile number, email, relationship status, and consent require a visit to an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
Biometric information updates (iris, fingerprints, facial photograph) also necessitate an in-person visit.
The UIDAI has not issued any official statement confirming the availability of online updates for name, date of birth, or mobile numbers.
While online address updates require a registered mobile number for OTP authentication, offline updates involve in-person verification and biometric authentication.
