Delhi Master Plan 2047 Protects Heritage, Restricts Metro Growth

Delhi Master Plan 2047 Protects Heritage, Restricts Metro Growth

Delhi has proposed a new plan for how the city should grow by 2047.

It would protect the green, spacious and low-rise character of Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone and Civil Lines Bungalow Area.

New very large developments near metro corridors would not be allowed in those places.

Polluting businesses and dangerous trades would be moved out of the Walled City.

The Walled City could gain museums, cafes, libraries, craft centres and performance spaces.

The plan also suggests more walking, cycling and better traffic management there.

Heritage buildings could be reused for cultural, hotel, office and other purposes if their important features are preserved.

Five archaeological parks would receive conservation plans.

Delhi could also hold more heritage walks, festivals, night markets and cultural activities.
