DMK MLA's son alleges police intimidation in defamation case

A DMK MLA named G V Markandeyan was arrested and questioned for 13 hours in a defamation case over a five-minute speech.

His son, Akshay, claimed that the police intimidated and threatened his father at gunpoint to deliver specific statements to suit the ruling party’s political agenda.

Akshay also mentioned that his father has health issues including diabetes and heart conditions, and should not have been subjected to prolonged questioning.

The MLA was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

Akshay compared the legislative assembly members to a 'brain' that controls the body and claimed that the ruling party was attempting to seize power over the legislative process to enforce its own agenda.
