Infosys' Nilekani to Lead Digital Overhaul of Power Sector
Imagine a future where anyone can generate their own electricity, like having a mini power plant on your roof.
The government is planning a big upgrade to the power system with a new digital plan.
Nandan Nilekani, who helped create things like UPI, is leading this project.
It's called the Digital Energy Grid, or DEG.
The goal is to make energy costs cheaper and more efficient, like how UPI simplified money transfers.
Small energy producers will be able to sell their energy, and buying and selling energy will be as easy as UPI.
This whole plan is part of a larger effort to modernize and improve the power system in India.
Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, is set to lead a task force for the digital overhaul of India's power sector.
The task force will be supported by funds from the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
The goal is to reduce generation, transmission, and distribution costs by up to 25 percent.
Nilekani envisions a 'Digital Energy Grid' (DEG) where small producers will participate.
Nilekani has stated that energy transactions will be like UPI.
