Senate Hearing: Paul Removes Fauci’s Lawyer Over Fifth Amendment
A Senate hearing about Dr. Anthony Fauci got heated.
Fauci was asked questions but kept saying he didn’t want to answer, using the Fifth Amendment.
His lawyer, David Schertler, tried to speak, but Senator Rand Paul said he wasn’t allowed to sit at the table.
Paul had police escort the lawyer out.
The lawyer said this was unfair and might take legal action.
Paul thinks the lawyer’s presence was illegal because a witness who says ‘I can’t answer’ can’t have an attorney talk in the same hearing.
Senator Rand Paul ordered Fauci’s lawyer, David Schertler, removed from a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
Paul said Schertler was not authorized to sit at the witness table and was disruptive while Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment.
Fauci repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment during the hearing, reportedly over 100 times.
Paul argued that a witness who takes the Fifth cannot have an attorney testify in the same hearing.
Schertler called the removal “outrageous,” accused the committee of bias, and threatened legal action.
