Reforming India's Examination System: A Call to Action

Reforming India's Examination System: A Call to Action

Shashi Tharoor wrote a letter to Nandan Nilekani, who is leading a committee to reform India's examination system.

Tharoor believes the current system is broken and needs a big change, not just small fixes.

He says the system is too stressful and unfair, with too much focus on memorization and high-stakes exams that often leak or have other problems.

He suggests moving to a system where students can take exams multiple times a year at local centers, with questions that are harder to leak.

He also thinks universities should look at more than just exam scores, like school performance and extracurricular activities.

Tharoor also wants better job opportunities for graduates and more accountability when exams fail.

He believes these changes can restore trust in the system and help India's youth reach their full potential.
