BMC Faces Vigilance Probe Over Alleged Contract Splitting
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had a meeting on July 31, 2026.
Some city officials said that the BMC was breaking big projects into smaller pieces so they could avoid the rules that normally require a public bidding process.
A BMC chairman warned that if this keeps happening, the city’s Vigilance Department will investigate.
A BJP corporator said the city should give a full report of all the money spent on these small projects.
A Shiv Sena corporator asked why projects already approved by local ward committees were being shown again to the committee.
The BMC said it was following old rules, but the corporators disagreed and wanted more transparency.
BMC Standing Committee warned of a vigilance probe over alleged contract splitting.
Chairman Prabhakar Shinde said projects worth Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore were being divided into smaller contracts to bypass tender norms.
BJP corporator Preeti Satam demanded a detailed report on total expenditure from piecemeal proposals.
Shiv Sena corporator Ramakant Rahate questioned re‑submission of already approved ward committee projects.
BMC officials claimed they were following rules set before ward committees were formed.
