Jharkhand Panel Clears Path for Urban Body Polls After OBC Test
The Jharkhand government is trying to figure out how many spots should be saved for people from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local elections.
A special group checked a bunch of things, as told by the court.
They've finished their work and will give their findings to the Chief Minister soon.
These elections have been delayed because they needed to sort out how many spots to save for OBCs.
This delay has also stopped the state from getting money from the central government.
The government will now decide if elections can finally happen.
Jharkhand Backward Classes Commission completed the triple test for OBC reservations in urban local bodies.
The triple test is required by the High Court to determine OBC reservation amounts.
The Commission will submit its report to the Chief Minister in September.
Municipal elections have been delayed since 2020 due to OBC quota clarity issues.
Delays have resulted in the state not accessing over Rs 1,600 crore in central funds.
