Karnataka CM commits to socio-economic survey, backs caste census
A big leader in India named D K Shivakumar is the Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka.
A Chief Minister is like the head of a state, similar to a captain of a team.
He spoke at a big meeting held for a group called the National OBC Federation.
OBC stands for people from communities that have not always had equal chances in life.
He said his government wants to help all people be treated fairly.
His government did a big survey to learn about different communities and their problems.
The survey report was given to the government in May 2026.
Shivakumar also said India should count its people by their communities, which is called a caste census.
He said this counting can help make sure everyone gets equal opportunities.
He believes this will help make society fair for everyone.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar inaugurated the 11th National Convention of the National OBC Federation at Jnanajyothi Auditorium in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar said his government was committed to implementing its socio-economic survey to ensure social justice for all sections of society.
The Chief Minister called for a caste census to reduce disparities and provide equal opportunities to all communities.
The socio-educational survey was taken up by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and the nine-member panel headed by former Advocate General Madhusudan R Naik submitted its report on May 27, 2026.
Shivakumar said backward classes account for 52 per cent of the country's population and noted that two-thirds of his Cabinet comprises Backward classes, Scheduled Castes and minorities.
