Polytechnic Colleges Protest Proposed Merger Under Telangana SHAKTI
People at polytechnic colleges in Warangal and Hanamkonda protested a proposed government plan.
The plan would place polytechnics under a program called SHAKTI.
SHAKTI would also include industrial training institutes and advanced technology centres.
These institutions would be linked with Young India Skills’ University.
The government says the plan is meant to match training with what industries need.
Protesters worry that polytechnic education could lose its separate identity and independence.
Staff wore black badges, while students held a demonstration and raised slogans.
They asked the government to listen to students, teachers, and other staff before deciding.
Faculty, staff, and students protested the proposed merger of polytechnic colleges with SHAKTI.
