Parsik Hill Tree Plantation Fails Due to Neglect
A big tree planting project on Parsik Hill in Belapur, India, is in trouble.
The government and others planted many trees and plants, but most of them are dying because no one is taking care of them after the rainy season.
People who care about the environment are upset and saying that the government needs to do better.
They want the government to check the plants, give them water, and take care of them for at least three years.
They also want the government to tell the public how many trees are really alive, not just how many they planted.
A large-scale tree plantation project on Parsik Hill in Belapur has failed due to lack of post-monsoon care and maintenance.
Most of the 15,000 saplings planted under the Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan are wilting or dried up due to water scarcity.
Citizen groups like Sajag Nagrik Manch have criticized the civic body for not providing regular watering, monitoring, and maintenance.
The project included native species and infrastructure like drip irrigation systems and water tanks, but these are not being maintained.
The Garden Department has tried to shift responsibility, but activists argue that the civic administration is ultimately responsible for the long-term protection of urban green spaces.
