Indian Statistical Institute Bill Sent To Parliamentary Panel

Indian Statistical Institute Bill Sent To Parliamentary Panel

The government has proposed a new law for the Indian Statistical Institute.

The law would replace the institute’s existing 1959 legal framework.

It was sent to a parliamentary committee for closer examination.

The committee must study the bill and report back within three months.

Faculty members have protested against the proposal.

Opposition lawmakers also wanted the bill reviewed by a committee.

The bill would create a Board of Governors to guide the institute.

It would also support research and training in statistics and related subjects.
