Nepal Flash Flood Death Toll Rises as Search Continues

A glacier near the Nepal-Tibet border partly collapsed.

Ice, rocks, water, mud and debris rushed into rivers and caused enormous floods.

The floods damaged homes, roads, bridges and hydropower stations in Nepal.

A later report said 781 people had died and 2,502 were still missing.

Earlier reports gave lower totals of 734 and 724, showing that the numbers changed as more bodies were found.

Rescue teams had saved 9,435 people according to the latest report.

Earlier updates said 8,186 people had been evacuated.

Rain, rising rivers, damaged roads and unstable land made the search harder.

Workers were also trying to reach people believed to be trapped in hydropower tunnels.
