US Sanctions Network Fueling Sudan War
The U.S. has put sanctions on some people and companies it says are helping a group called the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.
This group is fighting against the Sudanese army.
The U.S. says the network is made up of former Colombian soldiers who are training and fighting for the RSF, even training children.
The U.S. is trying to stop the war in Sudan, which has been going on since April 2023 and has caused a lot of suffering.
The U.S. has also proposed a plan for a temporary truce to try to bring peace.
The U.S. imposed sanctions on four individuals and four entities accused of fueling the war in Sudan.
The network is said to recruit former Colombian military personnel to fight for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Hundreds of former Colombian military personnel have traveled to Sudan since at least 2024 to fight alongside the RSF.
The RSF has been accused of committing genocide and targeting civilians, including children.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF began in April 2023 due to a power struggle.
