Patna High Court Awards Rs 1 Lakh Compensation
A man in Bihar was accused in two cases and was told to go to a police station far from his home twice a day.
This made it very hard for him to live his life and earn money.
The Patna High Court said this was not fair and gave him Rs 1 lakh as compensation.
The court also said that the rule was being broken because people were being asked to go to police stations too far away.
The court told the government to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Patna High Court granted Rs 1 lakh compensation to a man accused in two cases for illegal attendance requirement.
The man was ordered to report twice a day to a police station 60 km away, causing immense hardship.
The court observed that the order violated the Bihar Control of Crime Rules 1978 and the principle of proportionality.
The petitioner was granted anticipatory bail in the first case and had no involvement in similar offenses thereafter.
The court directed the Bihar government to bring the judgment to the notice of all district magistrates in the state.
