Andhra Pradesh Assembly Passes Organ Donation Bill, Aid Proposal

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Passes Organ Donation Bill, Aid Proposal

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed a new law about organ donations.

It would allow more relatives, including grandparents and maternal aunts and uncles, to donate organs.

It would also allow swap donations when two families can help each other.

The law creates rules for recording and checking donor and recipient information.

It would permit organ retrieval after cardiac death in certain medical situations.

There would be stricter rules for donations involving minors and foreigners.

Illegal organ removal and trading would receive strong punishments.

The government may increase help for families of brain-dead donors from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Many people in Andhra Pradesh are waiting for organs, so the government wants more donors and transplant centres.
