Karnataka HC considers shutting Pilikula zoo
The Karnataka High Court is looking at a case about a zoo in Mangaluru called Pilikula Biological Park.
Someone who cares about animals, Bhuvan M, filed a complaint saying the zoo is not taking good care of the animals.
The court saw pictures of animals in bad conditions and said the zoo might have to close.
The problems include rusty and broken animal homes, dirty water, and not enough space for the animals.
The zoo is also working without a proper license.
The court will decide more about this on February 5.
Karnataka High Court saw photos of poorly maintained animal enclosures in Pilikula Biological Park and considered shutting it down.
A PIL filed by Bhuvan M alleges violations of Central Zoo Authority guidelines, including poor enclosure conditions and lack of veterinary care.
The zoo is currently operating without a license, with the last extension valid until December 1, 2025.
The Central Zoo Authority has issued show-cause notices to the park in 2023 and 2025.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 5, with the petition seeking action against the Pilikula Development Authority under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and Zoo Rules, 2009.
