Kochi Metro to Develop Mumbai Water Metro Project
Kochi Metro will help Mumbai build its water transport system.
They are hired to create a detailed plan, the DPR.
The goal is to make it easier for people to get around by connecting different types of transport, by spanning across water bodies like Vaitarna, Vasai, Manori, Thane, Panvel, and Karanja.
Kochi Metro is extending their expertise to create sustainable mobility solutions.
This is to boost intermodal connectivity.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) was selected to prepare a DPR for Mumbai's Water Metro.
The project aims to create extensive commuter connectivity across Mumbai's waterways.
The DPR will be built upon an earlier feasibility study by KMRL's consultancy wing.
The Mumbai project will cover nearly 250 km of waterways, with 29 terminals and 10 proposed routes.
KMRL is also involved in feasibility studies for water metros in 18 cities across India.
