Himachal High Court Upholds Army Officer’s Divorce Over Allegations

A court looked at a married couple’s dispute.

The wife told the Army that her husband was having an improper relationship with his sister-in-law.

She did not provide enough evidence to prove this accusation.

The court said making such serious claims to an Army officer’s bosses could badly harm his reputation at work.

Because of this, the court considered the accusations a form of serious mental cruelty.

The court did not agree that every complaint or police case made by the wife was automatically cruel.

It also said the husband had not waited long enough to claim that his wife had deserted him.

The court therefore kept the divorce in place, but only because of the proven mental cruelty.
