Indian Businesses Respond to Sustainability Pressures
Indian businesses are facing a lot of pressure to become more sustainable.
This pressure comes from different groups like the public, the government, and regulators.
Dr Mukund Rajan, an expert on sustainability, talked about this at a big meeting in Mumbai.
He said that companies are now focusing more on being environmentally friendly and socially responsible.
The Indian government has set big goals, like using more renewable energy and reaching net zero emissions by 2070.
Many companies are also improving their ESG ratings, which measure how good they are at being sustainable.
This is important because climate change is causing big problems, like extreme weather, which can hurt the economy and businesses.
Indian businesses are responding to sustainability pressures from civil society, government, and regulators.
Dr Mukund Rajan discussed these changes at the FE Insurance Summit, 2025 in Mumbai.
The Indian government has set targets to generate 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2070.
The Supreme Court ordered the auto industry to adopt BS6 emission norms in 2018, skipping BS5.
SEBI has mandated the top 1000 listed companies to produce Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reports (BRSR).
