Vijayanagara: Municipal Employees Initiate Strike for Recognition
Imagine the people who clean the streets and maintain the city stopped working.
That's what happened in several towns in Vijayanagara.
These workers, who work for the local government, went on strike.
They want the government to treat them like government employees.
This means they want the same benefits and recognition as other government workers.
They had already warned the government by wearing armbands for a while, but when the government didn't respond, they stopped working.
This means no garbage collection, street cleaning, or other important services until their demands are met.
Urban local body employees in Vijayanagara district began a strike on Tuesday.
The strike was to demand recognition as government employees.
All services except water supply and street lighting were suspended.
Workers had previously worn black armbands for 45 days.
Municipal services were halted in several towns due to the strike.
