More States Expected to Join Crop Insurance Scheme for Rabi Season
The government runs a crop insurance program called PMFBY to help farmers.
Several states are planning to join this program, which protects farmers' crops from problems like floods and droughts.
Farmers pay a small part of the insurance cost, and the government pays the rest.
Since the program started, a lot of money has been given to farmers to help them with their losses.
To make sure farmers get their money faster, states now have to set up special accounts.
Several states may join the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the next rabi season.
The scheme offers comprehensive risk coverage for crops from pre-sowing to post-harvest stages.
Farmers pay a fixed premium of 1.5% for rabi crops and 2% for kharif crops.
Over Rs 1.82 lakh crore has been paid to farmers under PMFBY since its launch in 2016.
The government has made it mandatory for states to open escrow accounts for premium payments.
