Bhutia Urges Boycott of Costly India-Brazil Friendly in Kolkata

India is planning to play Brazil in a football match in Kolkata.

The match is scheduled for October 3, 2026.

Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia wants fans to boycott the game.

He believes too much money is being spent on one 90-minute match.

Reports put the cost at ₹60–70 crore, while Bhutia mentioned ₹50 crore.

He says the money could help young footballers and other athletes instead.

He suggested building futsal grounds and supporting athletes for the Commonwealth Games and Olympics.

Preparations are continuing, including an inspection of the stadium by Brazilian football officials.

India also left a new regional tournament to make room for the Brazil match.
