Jharkhand Sees 300% Rise in Annual Heatwave Days
Imagine Jharkhand is a place that's getting much hotter, with heatwaves happening more often.
Over 35 years, there have been 590 days where it was extremely hot.
The number of these hot days has tripled!
Most of these hot days were in May.
The western part of Jharkhand gets hotter than the eastern part.
Experts think this is because of many reasons such as fewer trees, mining, more buildings, and air pollution.
This means the state is becoming much hotter and needs to find ways to help the people cope with this change.
Jharkhand recorded 590 heatwave days over 35 years, with 431 occurring since 2000.
The state saw 21 heatwave days in 2024, a rise from seven in 1990.
Most heatwave days occurred in May (275) followed by April (183) and June (132).
Western and central districts experienced more heatwaves than eastern ones.
Mining, deforestation, urbanization, and pollution are potential causes.
