Belgian Expert Warns Europe Lags in Tech
A Belgian cybersecurity expert named Miguel De Bruycker said that Europe is behind the United States in technology.
He explained that because American companies control most of the internet and cloud services, it's very hard for Europe to keep all its data within the EU.
He also mentioned that Europe needs to improve its own technology, like cloud computing and artificial intelligence, to better protect itself from cyber attacks.
He suggested that instead of trying to stop American companies, Europe should focus on building its own technology.
Last year, Belgium experienced several cyber attacks, mostly from Russian hackers, which temporarily knocked websites offline.
De Bruycker believes Europe should support its own companies, like OVHcloud and Schwarz Digital, to strengthen its digital infrastructure.

American tech companies dominate cloud services, making it hard for Europe to store data within the EU.
Europe needs to develop its own capabilities in cloud computing and AI to improve cybersecurity.
EU regulations like the AI Act are seen as blocking innovations.
Belgium recently experienced five waves of DDoS attacks, attributed to Russian hacktivists.
