Ex-Waqf Board Chief, 2 Officials Booked for Rent Scam
In Bhopal, the police have filed a case against three former officials of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board.
They are accused of leasing properties at very low rates, which caused a big financial loss to the Board.
The properties were supposed to bring in Rs 2.76 crore every year, but only Rs 21 lakh was collected.
The officials changed the rent structure without proper approval and did not follow the rules for auctions.
This led to a loss of Rs 2.54 crore every year.
The investigation started in October 2023 after a complaint was filed in July 2023.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has filed an FIR against three former officials of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, including ex-chairman Shaukat Mohammed Khan, for leasing properties at below-guideline rates.
The alleged annual loss to the Board is estimated at Rs 2.54 crore.
The case followed a complaint filed in July 2023, alleging violations of the Waqf Board Act-1995 and Waqf Property Lease Rules-1914.
The EOW found that 185 properties covering 83,000 sq ft were leased at rates far below collector guidelines, resulting in a massive shortfall in rent collection.
The MP Waqf Board had constituted an 11-member Intjamia Committee for Auqaf-e-Amma, which changed the rent structure without approval or public notice, ignoring auction rules.
