Merz Plans to Override States Over NATO Logistics

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is worried that a far‑right party, the AfD, could win control of two eastern German states.

If that happens, the AfD might slow down the movement of NATO troops and equipment.

Merz’s government is planning ways to override state decisions if needed.

A defence source said Russia could use these political divisions to make Germany a bad place for NATO to move troops.

The German defence minister warned that AfD state governments might be left out of important intelligence briefings because of their ties to Russia.

The plan is to keep Germany ready for any Russian attack.
