Mumbai Plans Seven Free Palliative Care Centres

Mumbai Plans Seven Free Palliative Care Centres

Palliative care helps people who have serious illnesses feel as comfortable and supported as possible.

It can include physical, emotional, spiritual, and social support.

On Saturday, Mumbai’s civic body and the Sukoon Nilaya Foundation announced plans to open seven free care and adult daycare centres.

The announcement marked World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

Dr Eric Borges said many people in Maharashtra need this kind of care, but far fewer currently receive comprehensive support.

Sukoon Nilaya opened a free palliative care centre in 2021.

It started with 13 beds and later grew to 35.

The foundation is now working to expand it to 75 beds.
