Restoration of Vinoba-Mira Cottage at Gandhi Ashram
The Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is undergoing a big restoration project.
One important part of this project is fixing up the Vinoba-Mira Kutir, a small cottage where two important people, Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Mira Behn, lived with Mahatma Gandhi a long time ago.
While working on the cottage, workers found some old steps that were buried under the ground.
They also discovered that the cottage was originally built on a small platform, which had gotten covered with sand over time.
The trust in charge of the ashram is now working to restore the cottage to how it looked originally.
They are also making sure that rainwater doesn't damage the cottage by installing special pipes.
This project is part of a larger plan to restore the entire ashram, which includes many other buildings that were important during Gandhi's time.
Restoration of Vinoba-Mira Kutir at Sabarmati Ashram revealed buried steps and a 1.5 feet high plinth.
The cottage was the residence of Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Mira Behn between 1918 and 1933.
The restoration project aims to preserve the heritage value and structural integrity of the cottage.
Special pipelines are being installed to divert rainwater and prevent damage to the structure.
The project is part of a larger Rs 1,200-crore Gandhi Ashram redevelopment initiative.
