SBI Ventures to Launch ₹2,000 Crore Climate Fund
SBI Ventures, a company under State Bank of India, is planning to start a big fund of ₹2,000 crore to support new companies working on climate solutions.
This fund will help startups that are developing new technologies to fight climate change, especially those using AI.
The money will come from investors both in India and around the world.
The fund aims to launch in the first few months of 2026.
India needs a lot of money, about USD 170 billion every year, to meet its climate goals.
The fund will focus on areas like making sure there is enough water, farming in a way that is good for the climate, and building things that can withstand disasters.
The head of SBI Ventures, Prem Prabhakar, says that to make this happen, we need different kinds of money, not just regular investments, but also special kinds of financing like bonds and carbon markets.
SBI Ventures plans to raise ₹2,000 crore for its third climate-focused fund.
The fund will invest in early and growth-stage climate startups, particularly in frontier climate technologies and AI-enabled climate innovations.
Domestic and global investors will be targeted for the fund, with roadshows starting early next year.
India requires USD 170 billion annually to meet its climate goals, with significant financing deficits in adaptation and resilience sectors.
A multi-layered climate financing model is proposed, blending equity, concessional capital, philanthropic risk-taking, and innovative structures.
