APERC Orders Refunds Totaling Rs 923 Crore to Consumers
The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has told power companies to give money back to customers.
These companies had charged too much for electricity.
They collected about Rs 2,787 crore, but were only allowed to collect Rs 1,863.64 crore.
Because of this, customers will receive a refund of about 13 paisa for each unit of electricity used.
The refund will happen over a year, starting in late 2025.
This is the first time since 1999 that the commission has ordered a refund instead of more charges.
APERC ordered DISCOMs to refund Rs 923.55 crore to consumers.
The refund is due to excess charges collected via the FPPCA mechanism.
DISCOMs collected Rs 2,787 crore; APERC approved Rs 1,863.64 crore.
The refund will be approximately 13 paisa per unit of electricity.
Refunds will be applied over 12 months, from November 2025 to October 2026.
