Meghalaya Identifies 1.8 Lakh Voters as Absent, Shifted, Deceased or Duplicate
In Meghalaya, the election office checked every voter’s record to make sure the list is correct.
They went door‑to‑door from June 30 to July 29 and found 180,404 people who were either missing, had moved, were dead, or were listed twice.
They also matched many voters with old records from 2005.
The people who couldn’t be matched will be checked again from August 5 to September 3.
After all this, the state will publish a new voter list that everyone can see.
180,404 electors (7.68%) were flagged as absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate during Meghalaya’s SIR.
House‑to‑house enumeration covered all 23,49,645 electors between June 30 and July 29.
81,490 deceased, 45,013 non‑responders, 42,532 permanently shifted, 4,668 declined, and 6,701 duplicate enrolments were identified.
33% of electors were directly mapped to the 2005 database; 49.78% were linked as progeny; 9.54% fell into the “No Mapping” category.
The notice phase for verification runs from August 5 to September 3 before the draft roll is published.
