BJP Blames Rumour Campaign for Bankipur Loss to Prashant Kishor

People in Bankipur, a part of Patna in the Indian state of Bihar, voted in a special election called a by-election.

A man named Prashant Kishor won, and his party is called the Jan Suraaj Party.

The other big team, the BJP, had been winning in Bankipur for about thirty years, so losing came as a big surprise.

The BJP said Mr. Kishor only won by telling people a story that was not true.

He claimed a BJP leader had called voters 'cats and dogs,' but that leader said he never said such a thing.

Mr. Kishor also said the BJP treated the voters of Bankipur like 'bonded labour' and took them for granted.

BJP leaders met for about two and a half hours to figure out what went wrong.

They said they picked a weak candidate and did not manage the voting booths well enough, and that some voters were disappointed.

They also thought another party secretly helped Mr. Kishor.

Now Mr. Kishor has four years to show the people of Bankipur what he can do.
