AP to Deploy Kumki Elephants to Curb Man-Animal Conflict
Andhra Pradesh is sending two trained elephants called kumki elephants to help stop fights between people and elephants.
These elephants will go to a place called Parvathipuram Manyam district.
The elephants are named Jayant and Abhimanyu.
They will help keep the elephants that come from Odisha from hurting people or their homes.
The government is also going to do other things like putting up fences and making more water places for the elephants.
They want to talk to Odisha about how to keep the elephants from coming into Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan directed the deployment of two trained kumki elephants to Parvathipuram Manyam district.
The elephants, Jayant and Abhimanyu, will help mitigate human-elephant conflict along the Odisha border.
The Forest Department attributed the conflict to habitat fragmentation, shrinking forest cover, and shortages of food and water.
Additional mitigation measures include solar fencing, elephant-proof trenches, water source development, AI-based monitoring, drone surveillance, and awareness programs.
Kalyan plans to discuss measures with the Odisha government to drive elephant herds back across the border.
