West Bengal Enforcement Teams Inspect Markets Amid Vegetable Price Surge
The government in West Bengal sent special police teams to check the prices of food in markets.
They went to places like Kolkata and other towns to see if vegetables and eggs were being sold too high.
The price jump happened because bad weather made it hard to grow and bring food.
The teams talked to sellers and looked at the prices.
They want to stop people from hoarding or selling food at unfair prices.
Enforcement Branch teams visited wholesale and retail markets in Kolkata to monitor rising vegetable, egg, and essential commodity prices.
The drive followed state government orders after July price hikes linked to rain‑induced supply disruptions.
Teams checked prices in Shyambazar, Garia Bazaar, Jadu Babu's Bazaar, and parts of the wholesale market area.
Similar inspections were carried out in South 24 Parganas district, including Baruipur and Garia, with police and municipal officials.
The Enforcement Branch is a specialized police unit tasked with preventing hoarding, black marketing, and price inflation.
