Jharkhand Freezes Administrative Boundary Changes for Census 2027
The leader of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, has said that no changes can be made to the borders of districts, towns, or villages from January 2026 to March 2027.
This is to make sure that when the big country-wide counting of people (called Census) happens in 2027, all the areas are clearly defined and the counting is accurate.
All the details of any boundary changes made before December 2025 must be sent to the census office in Ranchi.
This is the first big counting after the pandemic.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered a freeze on administrative boundary changes from 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2027.
The freeze applies to districts, subdivisions, blocks, municipal bodies, cantonment boards, wards, panchayats, and villages.
The directive was issued under Rule 8(iv) of the Census Rules, 1990, framed under the Census Act, 1948.
All boundary changes made up to 31 December 2025 must be forwarded to the Directorate of Census Operations in Ranchi.
The freeze is essential for accurate census operations during the 2027 enumeration.
