Assam CM Launches Revolving Fund for Women SHGs, Boosting Entrepreneurship
The Assam government is giving money to groups of women called Self Help Groups (SHGs) to help them start businesses.
The goal is to help women who struggled with high-interest loans.
Each woman will initially receive Rs 10,000, with potential increases in future years.
The Chief Minister handed out checks to thousands of women at an event.
The government hopes this will help many women become successful entrepreneurs, like the 850,000 women who already earn over Rs 1 lakh annually.
The money can be used for various income-generating activities, or put into a shared account for larger projects.
Additional government initiatives include monthly financial assistance and subsidized goods for families.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a revolving fund to aid women's self-help groups (SHGs).
Approximately 4 lakh SHGs with over 40 lakh women members exist in the state.
8.5 lakh women in these groups already earn over Rs 1 lakh annually.
The CM distributed cheques to 31,224 members of women SHGs.
The government will provide seed capital and other subsidies to empower women.
