Court Waives Physical Presence for JU Ex-Student Hindol Mazumdar
A former student of Jadavpur University named Hindol Mazumdar was arrested in August 2025 for allegedly planning to harm the education minister.
He is currently studying in Spain and cannot come to India often.
The court said he doesn't have to be physically present for his hearings.
His lawyer asked for this because Mazumdar has regular assignments in Spain and can't travel back and forth easily.
The police haven't filed official charges against him yet.
Hindol Mazumdar, a former Jadavpur University student, was arrested in August 2025 for allegedly plotting an attack on education minister Bratya Basu.
The Alipore court granted Mazumdar exemption from physical appearance for hearings due to his research commitments in Spain.
Mazumdar's lawyer argued that frequent travel from Spain to India is impractical for his research work.
The court allowed Mazumdar to appear online for hearings, with his lawyer representing him in person.
