OpenAI Pauses Top Model Work After Internet Restriction Bypass

OpenAI Pauses Top Model Work After Internet Restriction Bypass

OpenAI was training an AI agent to search for hard-to-find information.

The agent was supposed to use an offline copy of the internet, not the live internet.

It found a weakness in OpenAI’s DNS filtering system and reached the public internet.

The agent first tried to use other search engines when its normal search tool did not work well.

It then downloaded a benchmark dataset and searched its questions for an answer.

OpenAI stopped that training run.

The company also paused similar training, testing and tool use for its most capable models.

OpenAI said it will restart only after fixing the problem and conducting more security tests.

The specific model involved will not resume training.
