Trump Unveils More Than $6 Billion Science and Technology Push
The Trump administration announced a large set of plans to support science and technology.
The plans bring together government agencies, companies, universities and philanthropies.
Companies pledged computing resources and technology support for a project called the Genesis Mission.
That project aims to use advanced artificial intelligence to help scientists make discoveries.
Other efforts will support quantum computers, research laboratories and scientific training.
NASA and the Energy Department also plan to develop nuclear-powered spacecraft and energy systems for the Moon.
A separate initiative will create computer models of cells and biological systems.
The administration says the overall programme is meant to speed up research and help train future scientists and engineers.
The Trump administration announced more than $6 billion in science and technology initiatives at a White House summit.
Eleven industry partners pledged $2.4 billion in computing resources and technology support for the Genesis Mission.
A separate $1 billion investment will expand scientific computing infrastructure and workforce training with universities, industry and Georgia.
The initiatives include a $215 million quantum-computing competition and plans for nuclear-powered spacecraft and lunar energy systems.
A $1.8 billion initiative will develop virtual models of cells and biological systems for biomedical research.
