Honda Expands E-Clutch Technology to 500cc-750cc Global Lineup
Imagine riding a motorcycle where you don't have to pull a lever every time you change gears.
Honda has added a new 'E-Clutch' system to many of its 500cc and 750cc bikes.
This smart system automatically manages the clutch for you, making it easier to shift gears up or down.
You can even stop the bike while still in gear without needing to pull the clutch lever.
The clutch lever still works normally if you like doing things the old way.
This makes city riding much simpler.
Honda is bringing this technology to more bikes around the world, and some of these might come to India soon, making Honda the first company to offer this on many different types of bikes there.
Honda is expanding its E-Clutch technology to five more global 2026 models in the 500cc and 750cc range.
The E-Clutch system automates clutch engagement, allowing riders to upshift or downshift without using the clutch lever.
This technology simplifies riding, especially in city traffic, by enabling stops in gear without disengaging the clutch.
Integration on 500cc models was straightforward, while 750cc models required coordination with the ride-by-wire throttle for downshifts.
Honda is expected to bring E-Clutch versions of the NX500, CB750 Hornet, and XL750 Transalp to India, potentially making it the first brand to offer such tech across multiple segments there.

Advantages of E-Clutch
Concerns about E-Clutch
Riding Experience
Advantages of E-Clutch
Simplifies gear shifts for easier city commuting, allows stopping in gear without clutch lever, maintains mechanical connection of manual gearbox.
Concerns about E-Clutch
Potential for less rider engagement for purists who prefer full manual control.
Technology Integration
Advantages of E-Clutch
Straightforward integration for 500cc models due to cable-operated throttle; advanced communication with ride-by-wire for 750cc models to auto-blip throttle on downshifts.
Concerns about E-Clutch
Adaptation for ride-by-wire throttle in 750cc models presented a bigger challenge.
