US Lawmakers Challenge Trump Policies on India
Three US lawmakers introduced a resolution to remove President Trump's 50% tariffs on goods from India.
They say these tariffs, which were imposed under an emergency law, are illegal and hurt American workers and consumers.
The tariffs also make it harder for businesses to work with India.
The lawmakers want to stop these tariffs to improve trade and relationships with India.
They also want to make sure the President doesn't use emergency powers to set trade rules alone.
Additionally, a group of senators wants to reverse a Trump-era rule that stops automatic work permit renewals for certain noncitizens, including spouses of H-1B visa holders.
They say this rule could cause problems for many families and businesses.
Three US House Representatives introduced a resolution to end Trump's 50% tariffs on Indian imports, calling them illegal and harmful.
The tariffs, imposed under the IEEPA, were called illegal and harmful to American workers and consumers.
The resolution aims to rescind the 25% 'secondary' duties imposed on August 27, 2025, on top of earlier reciprocal tariffs.
Lawmakers highlighted the economic ties between the US and India, including investments and exports.
