USS Benfold suffers 4-day power failure in South China Sea

A big warship named the USS Benfold belongs to the United States Navy.

On July 24, the machines on the ship that make electricity stopped working.

This is called a power failure, and it lasted for four days.

Without power, the ship could not steer or move by itself.

The toilets, the kitchen, the air conditioning, and the drinking water did not work either.

No sailors were hurt, and the Navy said the crew stayed calm and professional.

Other ships brought food to the crew, including one called the USS Robert Smalls.

The broken ship was pulled to Subic Bay in the Philippines to be fixed.

Power came back two days after the ship was towed, and the repairs were finished on August 8.

The ship then went back to work, but people are asking whether Navy ships are being asked to do too much while the US is at war with Iran.
