Orissa High Court Grants Relief to Dismissed Central Bank Workers

Orissa High Court Grants Relief to Dismissed Central Bank Workers

Several workers at the Central Bank of India worked as cleaners and support staff.

They were employed on daily wages at different branches.

The workers were accused of using false or forged school certificates to obtain regular jobs in 2012.

After disciplinary proceedings, they were dismissed in 2016.

The workers challenged their dismissals in court.

On September 8, the Orissa High Court set aside those dismissals.

The court ordered the bank to reconsider their punishment.

It said the bank must consider their education, social status, and loss of livelihood, and cannot choose dismissal, removal, or compulsory retirement as the punishment.
